INSPIRE Your Pupils with the Tilnar Cycle Challenge
Pupils ENTER for FREE and School Events can take place any time throughout the year
The Tilnar Cycle Challenge hopes to inspire the next generation of cyclists and to encourage exercise and cycling amongst school children. All children U16 will now be able to enter for FREE. Parents can make an entirely voluntary £5.00 donation to one of our chosen charities on entry. School events can take place throughout the year as some schools would like to organise their events during the Autumn Term or at times that fit into their calendars.
The school event is designed to encourage pupils to ride their bikes in an off road setting and to see how far they can go in a recommended time of 90 mins. The idea is for the event to take place after school and for it to be held on a school playing field with a circuit mapped out with cones.
Parents are encouraged to bring a picnic and attend to support their children who are inspired to exercise for up to 90 mins to see how far they can go. Parents or teachers (who know the length of the circuit) record the number of laps each child does during the 90 mins. The parents have a great time watching and having a picnic (and no doubt a glass of wine) and the children are encouraged to gain sponsorship, which can go towards the school or a charity of your choice or split between the two.
We held the first school events with our local primary school with 50 children taking part in the 2nd year (a third of the whole school), who were inspired by the challenge to cycle 254 miles between them in 90 mins and raising over £1,000 for charity split between the PTA and Porridge and Rice, one of the charities the Tilnar Cycle Challenge supports. It was a fantastic success with the pupils loving the event and being inspired by the challenge.
There is a link below to the documents that need to be sent to parents with the details for your event. It is an extremely easy event to organise, really does inspire your pupils to exercise and raises money for charity. It really did capture the children’s imagination and we believe it will capture your pupils’ imagination as well.
School Events in the Tilnar Cycle Challenge inspires children to exercise and ride their bikes and give them a target to aim for whilst raising money for charity. The aim is for children to see a progression in the distances they cycle each year. They enter their distances on this website and they will hopefully aspire to cycle slightly further each year. We hope it becomes an inspiring target for children each year which will help motivate them to exercise, keep fit and ride their bikes.
