A former top London lawyer is hoping to launch the “marathon for cycling” to raise money for charity.
Tom Hawes quit the high-pressure lifestyle to run Ongar-based Fairtrade distributor Tilnar Art and now wants to see his Tilnar Cycling Challenge go global.
“I came up with the idea initially as a personal challenge, seeing how many miles I could ride in one day,” said the 39-year-old. “But then I thought lots of people would like to challenge themselves in that way so I came up with the idea of taking it worldwide. Hopefully it can create a marathon for cyclists set across the world. People have already entered in Zimbabwe, Switzerland, America and Germany.
“Everyone we speak to thinks ‘wow, what a good idea’.”
